11 civilians including five children under 18 burned to death

Eleven villagers including five children under 18 were burned to death by the military council’s troops in Kanpyin in the north-east of Dontaw village in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region on the morning of December 7th, according to locals.

The victims were burned alive by the military council’s troops at around 10 am on December 7th.

A villager said: “I found the blood stains where they were burned. I think the military should not do such a brutal act.”

The villagers were hiding in the betel leaf plantations and bushes as around eight soldiers entered the village. The military council’s troops arrested, beat and killed them.

The names of victims aged 14 and 15: are Maung Kyaw Thet, Maung Akar Soe, Maung San Lin Soe, Maung Chit Nan Soe and Maung Than Myint Aung. The remaining six victims are farmers. The military council’s troops destroyed and took the property from the house owned by Ko Soe who is one of the victims, according to locals.

After burning the victims, the military council’s troops arrested around five workers from the Ever Win Beer Station in Kankone village on the way to the south on Pathein-Monywa Road, according to locals.

There are frequent mine attacks by the People’s Defense Forces only in the villages to the north of Yamar creek. There are no reports of attacks in the southern villages where the incident took place.
