Conflict-affected areas become wider in Tanintharyi Township

Fighting which started on December 31 has spread to the whole area in Tanintharyi Township in Tanintharyi Region, the information officer of the Alliance force told the Than Lwin Times.

Till January 3, fighting between the military council and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) alliance continued to intensify in around ten villages including Bawdikan, Banlaw, Zawae and 6th mile villages due to the military council’s big offensive.

Twelve junta soldiers were killed and one PDF member killed in the two-day fighting on December 31 and January 1, according to the Information officer of the PDF Alliance.

The detailed information about the casualties from the both sides in the two-day fighting on January 2 and 3 are still unknown. The military has cut off internet access and some communication lines and blocked some roads.

The Alliance has requested the public to follow the rules and regulations without fail as fighting may intensify if the military council troops again conduct an offensive.

At present, the ongoing fighting has displaced more than 200 locals from more than ten villages including Banlaw, Bawdikan, Zawae and 6th mile villages in Tanintharyi Township.
