NMSP And MUP Strongly Condemn The Assassination Of MUP Candidate

The New Mon State Party (NMSP) and the Mon Unity Party (MUP) issued the statements on June 9 of strong condemnation the assassination of Mi Wai Thi Phyo, a candidate of MUP, who was shot and killed near Bayarthonezu village on June 8.

The New Mon State Party (NMSP) expressed in its letter of condolence that the perpetrator and the organization that assassinated Mi Wai Thi Phyo would be regarded as terrorist groups and they would be taken action.

Moreover, the NMSP, as an anti-violence party, stated the strong condemnation such assassination because those who do not want peace but work for violence killed Mi Wai Thi Phyo who had been actively working with the full strength.

It also called for MUP members and the general public to take it seriously and try for revealing the truth of this political sectarian violence. And it urged allied groups and relevant organizations to deter the similar incidents from happening again and to work together for prevention of ethno-religious conflicts and bringing peace, security and tranquility for the public.

Mon Unity Party (MUP) stated its strong condemnation upon any kind of violence which could deter the establishment of Federal Union aspired by all ethnic peoples and it would try not to arise any ethno-religious conflicts during the current political crisis between the ethnic groups who are living peacefully in Mon State.

Organizations like the European Mon Unity Association (EMUA) and the Mon National Network (MNN) also stated their strong condemnation the murder of MUP candidate Mi Wai Thi Phyo.

While driving her car, the anonymous assassinator shot Mi Wai Thi Phyo in the evening of June 8 between Bayarthonezu village and Ywarthit village, Kyainseikkyi township. Based on the bullet shells, the Investigators to the scene concluded that the killer must have used AK-47 rifle.
