Seven soldiers and police members including a captain join CDF-Mindat

July 26th, 2021

Seven soldiers and police members including a captain, from Makui Innu town in Mindat Township in Chin State joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) with their arms on July 24th, by defecting to the Civil Defense Force (CDF)-Mindat.

An official of the CDF-Mindat said: “On July 24th, we went to their camp as CDF members and urged them to join the CDM. Five of 12 soldiers and police members in Makui Innu frontline police station located in the southwest of Mindat Township, have run away with arms. Only seven members joined the CDF.”

Those who joined the CDM are: Captain Thein Htike from the DSA Batch-55, two soldiers, one police officer and three police members.

“They want to bring change for the betterment of the country. We welcome their desires. Soldiers or police members don’t need to forget their code of conduct to defend the public. Anyway, they have enough time to defect. I would like to urge them to join us in time by bringing along their arms if they have a desire to see the betterment of the country,” he added.

Makui Innu town on Saw-Kanpetlet-Paletwa Road, is located about 70 miles from Mindat Township. In 2017, it was upgraded into the town.

The ceasefire between the CDF-Mindat and the military council broke on July 16th. Since July 21st, the fighting has resumed, forcing hundreds of locals to flee to safer places again.
