The military council troops fired shots at a volunteer vehicle carrying medicines and food for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on its way back to Demawsoe from Loikaw, on the morning of September 27th, according to a local man from Demawsoe Township.

“The eastern part of Demawsoe Township sees a rising number of the IDPs. There is a gradual decline in medical and food stocks. This morning, a volunteer went to Loikaw to carry medicine. The military fired a shot at the vehicle at the corner of 6th mile and the road heading to Zayatphyu, on its way back to Demawsoe. The bullet hit the windscreen of the car. Fortunately, the driver did not get any injury,” he added.

The terrorist military council’s troops are active along 6th mile village of Dawpoesi village at the entrance of Demawsoe Township and the exit of Loikaw Township and fired shots at some vehicles without any inspections.

Fighting is taking place between a combined force of the Karenni Army (KA) and the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) and the military council’s troops in Demawsoe Township every day. The total number of the IDPs in the east of Demawsoe Township has reached around 5,000. The IDPs are in urgent need of medicines and food.

Till September 12nd, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the east of Demawsoe Township reached 45.

“The IDP camp is being run by volunteers on a self-reliant basis. They themselves have to collect rations and medicines. The doctors who have joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) provide health care to the patients at three IDP camps,” he added.

There is frequent fighting in Loikaw, Demawsoe and Phruso Townships in Karenni State. Some civilians get arrested as the military council’s troops are conducting checks on passersby in downtown Loikaw.
