Mother and son severely wounded by heavy shells fired by the military

A woman and her child were severely wounded by heavy shells fired by the military council’s troops near Mankhar village in Mongkoe sub-township in the northern Shan State on September 27th.

At around 10 pm on September 27th, heavy shells fired by the military council’s troops based in Laukkai fell on U Tan Gwon’s house in Mankhar village in Puwan village-tract in Mongkoe Sub-Township, injuring his wife and son, a local told the KNG.

“The incident took place in Mankhar village located about one mile from Puwan village, at 10 pm yesterday. The wounded child is in critical condition. Heavy shrapnel hit his 9-year-old son Mar Bone’s head, ear, body and leg. His son was severely wounded. Shrapnel in the ear can be removed only when the doctor arrives. Heavy shells hit Daw La Ban Ywal’s leg, the local said.

On the morning of September 27th, the military council’s troops indiscriminately fired light and heavy weapons from Phawmaw and Manjet in Mongkoe. The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance (MNDAA) (Kokang) ambushed the military council’s 11 military vehicles heading from Panghsang near Namsu village at around 4 pm.

Fighting between the military council and the MNDAA (Kokang) has displaced more than 2,000 people in Mongkoe and Pangsang sub-townships. Artillery shells injured three civilians and killed six others. A person died after stepping on a landmine.
