October 11st, 2021

A pregnant woman from the IDP camp in the west of Demawsoe Township in Karenni State died on the way to a clinic in Loikaw, according to the victim’s niece.

The victim’s niece said: “Since the beginning of pregnancy, she had to stay in the IDP camp. She had to flee to a safer place for the second time. I don’t know whether she had to stay in the forest. She felt tired very often when she was pregnant. We had to make arrangements for her temporary stay at a house near the village for two or three days as she was sick. This morning, I got a phone call as she felt pain. She was sent to the clinic in Loikaw by the social organization’s car as she felt severe pain. Soon she died on the way to the clinic.”

She was buried on the morning of October 11st.

The victim is from Dawngankhar ward and nine months pregnant. She had to flee to the forest for the second time and could not eat nutritious food sufficiently.

She met the doctor at a clinic in Loikaw before fighting in Demawsoe Township. While at the IDP camp, she caught a cold and faced difficulty in the availability of food.

The 39-year-old victim left behind her husband, a 13-year-old son and a six-year-old son. The deaths of the elderly, children and pregnant women are also reported in the IDP camps in Demawsoe Township due to the lack of sufficient health care.
