January 17th, 2022

In the message sent to the 70th Anniversary of the Karenni State Day, the military council offers to hold peace talks in Karenni State where it is conducting airstrikes.

Democracy and the federal system which is aspired by the ethnics would be realized in a short period of time only when there is cooperation among the Tatmadaw, civil servants, CSOs and the entire people, the junta’s message says.

Regarding the junta’s message, Khu Daniel, Secretary-1 of the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) said: “The KNPP has no plan to hold peace talks with the military council. The public is of great importance. It is difficult for the armed organizations to accept it as the public shows opposition to it. The public doesn’t accept it. The public themselves are revolutionizing the junta. The organizations have no reason to accept the matter the public opposes.”

Since the coup, the fighting has been taking place between a combined force of the Karenni Army (KA), the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) and the junta troops in Karenni State every day. Recently, the military council conducted airstrikes in Karenni State.

In recent days, fighting continues in downtown Loikaw. More than half of the total populations in Karenni State are the IDPs.

According to the military-controlled media, the 70th Anniversary of Karenni State Day was held at the town hall in Loikaw of Karenni State.

The ceremony was attended by U Saw Daniel, a member of the State Administration Council, Ministers of the Karenni State Administration Council U Shwe Kyin and U Tun Tun Naung, Karenni State Chief Minister U Khin Maung Oo and locals.
