May 20th, 2022

At around 3 am on May 19th, the military troops burned Laechar village Kalay Township for the second time.

The military troops are burning the villages in the south of Kalay Township. On May 16th, the military council troops burned that village for the first time.

“The military is burning the villages without fighting. Yesterday afternoon, the military burned Kokko village. This morning, the military burned Laechar village. It again burned that village,” a volunteer helping the refugees in the south of Kalay.

Laechar village has more than 200 households. The whole village was reduced to ashes by the military’s second arson.

The military burned Shardaw village on May 17th and Kukko village on May 18th.

The military, which is carrying out an offensive operation in the south of Kalay, burned the houses in the village although there were no clashes with the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).

The military burned the houses when the entire people from the villages fled to safer places.

The military burned down more than 1,000 houses from at least ten villages including east See, Sharpho, Tinthar, Shaeshin, Laechar, Kokko and Shartaw villages in the southern Kalay.

Around 40,000 locals from those villages are hiding in the forests and are in urgent need of rations, medicines and waterproof sheets.
