Military kills three civilians in Tamu Township

Three civilians from Yanlinphine and Khunmonnwan villages in Tamu Township in Sagaing Region on India-Myanmar border were found dead in Namontar village at around 10 am on June 24th.

“Yesterday, the military arrested three hiding civilians after gunfire. This morning, the military killed them. We are waiting to carry the bodies of those killed if the situation is stable,” a local from Yanlinphine village says.

Three victims killed by the military council are: U Paung Tin Htan from Yanlinphine village and U Haung Lin Man and U Say Kho Htan from Khunmonnwan village. The military arrested them while they were hiding in the school and house during the shooting.

On the evening of June 23th, the military council troops entered Yanlinphine village. The military carried out indiscriminate firing of heavy weapons and burned down six houses. All the villagers have fled to the farms and the India-Myanmar border.

On June 8th, the military council troops destroyed the TBA church in Yanlinphine village.
Yanlinphine village located beside Tamu-Kalay road has more than 130 houses. The Thadou (Kuki) Chin tribe is living in that village.

In recent days, there is military tension between the military council troops and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).

On the evening of June 25th, Tamu-PDF Battalion-3 ambushed a military column of around 300 soldiers. The ambush hit two military vehicles. The military may suffer heavy casualties, according to the Tamu PDF’s statement.

On June 22th, around 25 soldiers and PyuSawHtee members were killed in the attack by a combined force of Tamu PDF in Panthar village in Tamu Township.
