Five civilians wounded in an exchange of gunfire at the checkpoint in Pindaya

Around five civilians were wounded and one soldier of the military council, killed in an exchange of gunfire between an urban guerrilla force and the military council, at a checkpoint in southern Shan State, according to locals.

On June 29th, an exchange of gunfire took place between the urban guerrilla force and the military council troops, at Myaukkyaunggyi checkpoint which is the north exit of Pindaya.

“The soldiers were conducting the checks at the checkpoint. The soldiers ordered two civilians on motorbike to stop it. But they did not stop. The soldiers carried out constant shootings. I heard the man from the back seat was wounded. Around 30 minutes later, the guerrilla force arrived back here by car and fired shots at the checkpoint,” A Pindaya local living near Myaukkyaunggyi checkpoint says.

The military fired shots at two civilians on motorbike at around 9.30 am on June 29th as they did not stop the motorbike. A soldier hiding the police outpost was killed and another one wounded in the shooting, according to a local.

After the shootings at the checkpoint in Myaukkyaunggyi, the military carried out indiscriminate shootings. Around four civilians were wounded in the shooting.

On March 4th, the local guerrilla force bombed Kyonekin police outpost in the south of Pindaya.
On April 4th, the military council’s checkpoint near Pindaya was attacked, according to local news sources.

On June 20th, U Kyaw Nyein, Vice-Chair of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) in Pindaya Township who is believed to be a military informant was shot dead by Gyo Phyu Guerrilla Force, according to the statement.

As Pindaya shares a border with Ywangan where the underground revolution guerrilla forces are active, the guerrilla forces are carrying out bombings at the checkpoints and the assassination of informants frequently.

As the military council continues to arrest and inspect the civilians, locals are living in fear.
